                                                                                              Colonial Days Camp

          During the Colonial Days Camp, participants will be transported back in time to 1607 – 1776. We will discuss famous colonists such as: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Betsy Ross, Pocahontus, Chief Powhatan, Squanto and more.

                                                            Girls will dress up each day in a Colonial ball gowns, pantaloons, and a mob cap!
 
              Historical Role Plays:  Girls will role play the formation of the early settlements into colonies. Should the colonists pay taxes to England? Should the "patriots" fight for independence against the Motherland?  We will role play our own Paul Revere's famous horseback ride, the Boston Tea Party, and the American Revolution. We will explore what happened after the revolution...  Should each colony stay independent or should they unite? Learn what Benjamin Franklin andothers had to say about these difficult issues. 
 
       The girls will explore the creation of the Declaration of Independence. We will examine museum replica copies of the Declaration of Indepencence and the  Constitution.  Girls will find out why it was important to create a uniform currency. Did Betsy Ross really sew the first American Flag?   
 
      Was Pocahontus a real Native American princess or simply a Disney character?  We will explore several famous Native Americans and their role in history.  Girls will learn a Native American circle dance, make a corn husk doll, and make a miniature Native American charm bag.
 
              Crafts:  In addition to the short history sessions and role play activities, the girls will participate in several craft activities such as: candle dipping, inkmaking, soap making, doll making (corn husk doll, wooden spoon doll), & learn how to cut a Betsy Ross five-pointed star. The young ladies will experience what school days were like using slate boards, hornbooks, battledores, quill feather pens and making their own ink!
 
      Girls will take turns churning butter in an authentic wooden butter churn. Camp includes a 5 x 7 group photo and light snacks daily.  Lastly, each young lady will receive their own Rag doll and make several accessories for their dolls as a keepsake of the Colonial Days.

 
    Activities will include:

· Dressing daily in pantaloons, Colonial dress & mob cap
· Crafts: candle dipping, soap making, doll making (corn husk, wooden spoon doll)

· Early Colonists activities and role plays
· Camp includes a “Monitor” (a scrapbook about the Colonial Days)
· Early American School Day activities using a hornbook, battledore, & slate board
· Making ink & writing with a quill pen
· Camp includes a 5 x 7 group & individual photos in the Colonial outfits
· Learn a Native American circle dance

· Take turns churning butter in an authentic wooden butter churn

Role play activities

* Camp includes a Rag Doll
